Summary

POSITION SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, directly oversees unit orientation for new graduate nurses and the new to specialty nurses while guiding progress of preceptor/orientee pair. This individual will also assist the development of the new grad and the new to specialty nurse from the novice nurse to a fully competent nurse in area of specialty. Must demonstrate an exceptional ability to coach, problem solve, actively listen, and communicate both verbally and in writing.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS




  • Makes daily rounds on orientee's patients, coaches and encourages critical thinking of orientees.

  • Guides clinical discussions focused on patient care.

  • Uses research and evidence as basis for practice, patient care decisions and teaching.

  • Coordinates orientees' schedules to accommodate classes, testing, competency validation and other orientation-based events.

  • Along with ERC, scheduled and communicates details of orientee/preceptor pairs weekly meetings.

  • Participates in weekly orientee/preceptor/educator meetings and provides feedback to ERC, leadership, APN, HR as appropriate and provides both written and verbal feedback, maintains database standardized for internship.

  • Reports at regular intervals to Orientation and Program Coordinators re: individual, group, unit leadership and cumulative orientee progress.



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:




  • At least 3 - 5 years of RN experience in hospital Perioperative nursing

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from CCNE accredited school is required

  • Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) Registered Nursing license, or Compact State licensure.

  • American Heart Association BLS Certification

  • May have specialty certification, not required
