POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Manager will report directly to the Director, Balance Sheet & Cash Flow Reporting and be an integral member of the Financial Reporting team. This highly motivated individual will be responsible for the financial reporting of several sections of the balance sheet and cash flow statements, aiding with the preparation of the consolidated reporting packages provided to Senior Management. They will partner with others within FR&A and throughout the Global Finance organization to help ensure the accuracy of the Company’s financial statements. 

 

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Assist with the preparation of the quarterly and annual Consolidated Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Management Reporting Packages and other team deliverables.
  • Develop and prepare several sections of the balance sheet and cash flow statements and supporting package pages. Responsibilities include:
    • Working closely with process owners to understand and document current processes and to develop financial reporting process improvements.
    • Preparing workpaper documentation, ensuring that the performance of key controls is evidenced.
    • Reviewing and analyzing assigned sections to ensure that activity is accurately reported in accordance with GAAP and significant variances are explained. 
    • Identifying key risks and opportunities during balance sheet and cash flow reviews and assist in developing new ways to present that information to provide senior management with meaningful and actionable reports.
  • Coordinate receipt of supporting schedules from various preparers. Verify and document the accuracy and completeness of each schedule and discuss significant activity with preparer. Analysis will include obtaining an understanding of the components of the budget versus actual activity. 
  • Prepare schedules to support external audit requests on a quarterly basis as well as assist in the preparation of quarterly SEC reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of the quarterly forecast, annual business plan and budget for the Statement of Cash Flows. 
  • Participate in the company’s MIP-66 Balance Sheet Account Reconciliation process, including review of quarterly certification statements from the business area owners, partnering with business area owners to clarify exceptions and to ensure that explanations for exceptions accurately reflect the nature of the reported item, and highlighting and summarizing financial reporting risks for senior management.
  • Review significant cash flow activity and verify accuracy of cash flow presentation through review of supporting schedules, analysis, and discussions with process owners. Explain and analyze business drivers and significant transactions that impact the cash flow statement.
  • Conduct or engage in regular meetings with business contacts on major transactions and work with other team members and the Accounting Policy group to ensure transactions and new policies are recorded correctly in accordance with GAAP.
  • Participate in the enhancement of financial reporting processes by leveraging the features of the PeopleSoft general ledger system (e.g. using query and nVision), Hyperion Financial Management, Workiva Wdata to connect and consolidate data from multiple sources and Workiva Wdesk for financial reporting. 
  • Assist in developing, managing and maintaining Excel models, SmartView queries, Hyperion Financial Reporting reports, PeopleSoft trees, Power BI reports, nVision reports, and other reporting databases used to produce various balance sheet and cash flow reports and other analysis. 
  • Perform special balance sheet, cash flow and financial analysis projects as directed.
  • Create and maintain job aids and other process and internal controls documentation. 

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

KEY TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Three plus years of progressive job experience in accounting, audit experience preferred.  Public accounting experience is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Excel. PeopleSoft, Hyperion / Essbase Reporting Suite, and Workiva preferred.
  • Detail oriented and active learner. 
  • Ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects while meeting required goals and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills - effective in prioritizing work and following through on commitments.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA preferred.

 

LOCATION

  • This position will be based at MI Corporate Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.

 

The salary range for this position is $96,000 to $121,400 annually.
