The Opportunity

The MassMutual Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics team is seeking a Business Operations Consultant with a focus on staffing models and demand/capacity planning to support our ongoing transformation.  This individual will create, evaluate, and monitor staffing models across Life and DI operations.  By leveraging key business drivers impacting efficiency, effectiveness and unit cost, this role will support leadership monthly reviews and the associated discussions impacting staffing and demand/capacity planning.  In addition, this individual may participate in broader initiatives, strategic projects, requests for data and needs aimed at transforming the operations landscape.  This incumbent will be a critical member of the Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics team which continues to have growing responsibilities to support MassMutual.

The Team

The Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics team, as a part of the larger Operations organization, supports our business partners by providing insights through a combination of data visualization and business analytics. We are a nimble team of professionals embedded in the organization, supporting real time needs and operational non-standard reporting, in order to drive improvement. We help customers understand their data and make data driven decisions by utilizing technology to blend data into digestible pieces - providing leaders everything they need to make tactical and actionable business decisions.

The Impact

  • Forecast and monitor key business drivers impacting staffing such as productivity, attrition, efficiency, and unit cost.
  • Create and maintain detailed demand and capacity models providing insights both short- and long-term needs.
  • Engage with all levels across the enterprise to navigate ambiguity to deliver results.
  • Work with Finance in updating FTE requirements for the budget monthly to ensure alignment across business units. 
  • Support monthly business review meeting (BRM) with senior leadership to analyze trends and identify opportunities.
  • Establish new ways of monitoring success, which may include KPI creation.
  • Drives continuous improvement and efficiencies beyond own scope of responsibility such as the account manager expansion and the design of our future platforms.
  • Sought as a key resource for resolution of unique or complex business problems.
  • Drive process improvements and highlight strategic gaps and risks.
  • Serve as a conduit of knowledge between functional and technical teams as well as within the Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics team.
  • Communicate regularly with individuals both within and outside of our team, managing relationships and expectations to ensure alignment.
  • Serve as a functional specialist for the Workforce Management discipline and related technologies, while acting as a trusted advisor in support of a highly dynamic, complex environment with various types and levels of staffing.
  • Act as a champion for analytics capabilities by communicating their benefits and how they can be implemented and leveraged across the organization.
  • Key stakeholder in ongoing Senior Leadership Team meeting cadence, prioritization, and reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years designing, managing, and driving the execution of complex staffing and Demand/Capacity models.
  • 5+ years Insurance operations /Finance Services experience
  • Bachelors Degree or 5+ years of workforce management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of data, data projects, reporting/analytics organizations, and applicable support methodology.
  • Independently and with management on high visible, divisional/cross-divisional complex projects
  • Strong interpersonal communication, conflict management, coordination, and planning skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to apply judgment to balance process compliance with achievement of business objectives.
  • Strong organizational skills with an impeccable attention to detail.
  • Insurance operations/Financial Services experience strongly preferred.
  • Outcome-oriented with the ability to drill down from the big picture.
  • Ability to communicate objectives, plans, status and results clearly to varying levels in the organization.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to succeed with minimal supervision.
