MCS is hiring for a Cable Technician with a Top Secret Clearance in Washington, DC. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits.
The Cable Technician must demonstrate their expertise in performing the installation of on-premise network cabling systems. The Cable Technician will require good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team setting. It is important that candidates keep abreast of industry trends and developments, as well as applicable Government regulations.
Typical duties include: Installing, testing, and labeling on-premise cabling, including connections, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, Protective Distribution System (PDS) conduit, and associated hardware. Performing fusion splicing of fiber optic cables. Updating cable run sheets and other documentation as required. Reading and interpreting system installation drawings and design packages, applying that knowledge to cabling installations. Installing and terminating LC, MTRJ, SC, and RJ45 connectors, and testing fiber-optic and copper cabling systems. Labeling cables and associated hardware according to standards and cable run sheets. Installing various types of cable trays, Protective Distribution Systems (PDS), and EMT conduit up to 4 inches in diameter. Required:

Educational Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent
Certification Requirements: Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Installer 1 (INST1), BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC) and BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) certifications are highly desirable. Experience Requirements: A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the installation of copper and fiber- optic cable plants is required. Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Must be highly proficient in the installation and test of on-premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit, and associated hardware. Possess a demonstrated ability in reading and interpreting system installation drawings and design packages, and applying that knowledge to the cabling installation, and promoting a safe work environment and implementing safe work practices. Must be proficient in the proper handling, installation, of LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination, and testing of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems. Must be proficient in the installation of various types of cable tray, PDS, and EMT conduit up to 4 inches. Desired: Confined space certified for outside plant installations.
