MELE Associates requires a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join the exciting nuclear security mission of the Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) as subject matter expert. NNSA’s Office of Design and Construction (NA-92) under the Office of Infrastructure (NA-90) has responsibility for providing design and construction oversight of our large and complex nuclear and non-nuclear capital line-item projects. The candidate’s primary focus will be providing design and construction expertise and oversight in the area of Mechanical Engineering for these capital line-item projects. The crucial role involves reviewing design to ensure all mechanical design is compliant with appropriate federal regulations as well as DOE/NNSA specific regulations and is effectively integrated into overall facility safety and construction activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Review design of mechanical systems for new construction and renovation projects within NNSA facilities.
* Review process flowsheets, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment specifications, equipment data sheets, system design descriptions etc.
* Review design to ensure integration of mechanical systems with electrical, instrumentation, civil, fire protection and structural etc.
* Participate in project reviews as a mechanical engineering subject matter expert
* Oversee the implementation of innovative mechanical solutions to improve facility operations as well as facility reliability, accessibility, maintainability and inspectability (RAMI)
* Review project documentation, system performance analyses, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
* Provide oversight of factory acceptance testing, ensuring adherence to technical standards and operational requirements.
* Serve as a key technical advisor on mechanical engineering matters, providing expert guidance to senior management and stakeholders.
* Develop and maintain relationships with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure mechanical design meets requirements.
* Coordinate and develop briefings and reports.
* All other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
* Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on facility design and project management
* Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
* Proficient in use of major national consensus codes and standards related to mechanical design
* Experience with Mechanical Engineering design under ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) quality program
* Demonstrated experience as a team lead or project engineer on large engineering projects
* Strong technical proficiency with HVAC including confinement ventilation; processing facility equipment; plumbing and other building mechanical systems
* Strong technical, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Willingness to travel as required for project needs and site visits; less than 25% travel
* Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
* Glovebox design experience
* Experience working for a Management and Operating (M&O) contractor at DOE / NNSA sites LOCATION: This is a full-time onsite position in Albuquerque, NM, USA * Telework options are available with a requirement to be in the office at least three days a week, based on the level of in-person meetings and office needs.
