In this HUD Accountant role, you'll manage and oversee financial operations for HUD and housing projects, ensuring compliance and accuracy in all reporting. As a key member of our team, you'll work closely with the Housing Division Manager, ensuring that our projects are financially sound and compliant with regulations. Key HUD Accountant Responsibilities:

  • File MaintenanceMaintain administrative files for HUD and other housing projects, including contracts, legal documents, and inventory.
  • HUD ReportingGather, compile, and prepare information for HUD reporting purposes, ensuring all related correspondence meets contractual requirements.
  • Year-End FinancialsPrepare and process end-of-year financial data for HUD projects, including electronic transmissions as required.
  • Bookkeeping SystemsOversee all accounting and bookkeeping systems for HUD projects, including reviewing monthly reports, posting accounts receivable entries, and processing payments.
  • Bank ReconciliationsPerform monthly bank reconciliations for HUD projects, ensuring accuracy and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Financial TransfersPrepare requisitions for transferring funds between accounts as coordinated by the Housing Division Manager.
  • Property Tax ExemptionsSubmit requests for real property tax exemptions for applicable projects, and track changes in filing requirements.
  • Subsidy BillingMonitor the status of payments for monthly subsidy billings and post payments to the general ledger upon receipt.
  • Audit PreparationAssist in the preparation for yearly financial audits by reconciling and documenting balance sheet accounts.
  • REAC SubmissionsProcess and input financial information required for REAC submissions.
  • Fixed Asset InventoryMaintain a monthly inventory of HUD fixed assets, including land, buildings, vehicles, and equipment.

HUD Accountant Requirements:

  • Education & Experience:
    • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent, with five (5) to ten (10) years of accounting experience. Strong knowledge of accounting practices, business letters and forms, and office methods. Proficiency in computer use, typing, and 10-key by touch.
    • Preferred: Bachelors Degree with an emphasis on accounts receivable with experience in QuickBooks and/or One Site programs.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
    • Health Clearance
    • High School diploma or equivalent and/or official College Transcripts
    • Current TB Clearance or TB X-Ray (two-step TB Clearance for TLP location)
    • If applicable: Valid Hawaii drivers license, current vehicle insurance, safety inspection, and a safe driving record documented by a Traffic Abstract
    • If applicable: Current CPR & First Aid Certificates, professional licenses
