About the Role
Merryhill School is seeking a dynamic and passionate Mandarin Teacher to bring the Chinese language and culture to life for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives on making language learning engaging, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate for a range of elementary learners.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who brings creativity, cultural knowledge, and a love for teaching to the classroom. You will work collaboratively with fellow educators to design lessons that support language acquisition while aligning with broader academic goals.
You will also:
- Teach Mandarin language fundamentals to students in grades K–6 using age-appropriate, interactive, and culturally rich methods
- Develop and implement lesson plans that promote listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Mandarin
- Foster an inclusive, positive, and respectful classroom environment that encourages student participation and cultural appreciation
- Differentiate instruction to support a wide range of language proficiency levels and learning styles
- Integrate Mandarin instruction with cross-curricular themes when appropriate
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to reinforce Mandarin learning across the school environment
- Maintain consistent communication with families regarding student progress and classroom activities
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Chinese Language Instruction, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
- Prior experience teaching Mandarin to elementary-aged students (K–6) strongly preferred
- Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin
- Familiarity with effective language instruction methods for young learners
- Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
- A growth mindset and commitment to creating joyful, inclusive learning experiences
