Location Description: Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products. Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to assist the plant with lean and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONIBLITIES:

  • Responsible for identifying continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for leading cross functional continuous improvement teams in the plant.
  • Responsible for leading speed trials in the precook areas, collecting necessary data and assisting plant continuous improvement engineers (CIEs) to develop speed profiles.
  • Responsible for developing training documents to train production leads and operators on manufacturing specifications and standard operating procedures (SOPs) with the goal of standardizing the daily tasks and reducing variation between work areas and across different shifts.
  • Develop and update process parameter matrices; maintain and optimize production startup sheets and hourly OEE lookup tables for production teams.
  • Work closely with plant CIEs to drive and deliver positive results on operations efficiency and the plant throughputs improvement.
  • Work closely with Shift Supervisors, all Precooked personnel, Maintenance, Distribution, Quality, and Processing as a pivot to install a Process Excellent culture in the plant.
  • May assist the production team when needed during the production set up.
  • Responsible for data collection on the floor as required and be able to transfer the data from paper to computer.
  • Assist in maintaining shift reports with plant CIEs and report out any errors on shift reports further improvement.
  • This position requires the candidate to work both on the floor and in the office in order to complete specific projects.
  • Conduct RedZone meetings.
  • Back up to Pre-Cook Clerk/Lead
  • Have some basic computer skills such as Excel, SAP, BW and Infinity.
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams and drive results.
  • Ability to document process flows and collect appropriate data from the floor. Have some basic skillsets for data processing and analysis.
  • Need excellent communication skills, including writing and verbal in English.
  • Need good mathematical and reasoning skills.
  • Must have good critical thinking abilities and be able to identify the continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to coordinate personnel from various departments including maintenance, QA, Production and Finance.
  • Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained in order to maintain SQF Level 3 certification. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work independently, with little supervision.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.

 

PREFERED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Powered Industrial Truck (PIT)
  • RedZone
  • Demonstrated confidence including providing a consistent leadership style with an acceptable level of professional assertiveness.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work well with others and be a team player.
