Mizzen Management LLC (Mizzen) is a direct lender providing flexible growth and transitional capital solutions for both non-sponsored and sponsor-backed lower middle market, US-based companies. Mizzen also has significant business and operating experience which allows a value creation and partnership approach in our investment process.

Recently awarded Small Business Administration 2024 Emerging Manager of the Year, Mizzen is expanding and adding the role of Investor Relations Vice President to complete the fundraising of two funds currently in the market and also to manage the process for future funds. Mizzen has fully invested Mizzen I, a $270M SBIC Fund. Mizzen II is a parallel, non-SBIC fund that has had a first close and has raised about $45M of a target raise of $250M - $500M. Mizzen III is an SBIC fund with its SBIC license recently issued for a committed $175M of leverage. It has about $80M committed of a target of $100M- $120M of equity to invest with the Leverage for a total fund size of about $300M.       

Job Description:

A Deal Execution Vice President (DEV) will assist a Managing Partners or Principal with all aspects of the deal investment process. The DEV will have primary responsibility for all quantitative and qualitative analysis of potential investments and tracking of portfolio companies. A DEV should expect to work on up to 8 new transactions and 12 portfolio companies at any given time. Each DEV will report to a senior staff member responsible for business development and deal execution.

INVESTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

·      Perform quantitative evaluation of potential transactions including:

  • detailed sector and company research and analysis,
  • financial analysis, including valuations, of a company,
  • due diligence question development stemming from the financial analysis,
  • interact with external consultants and advisers as required regarding analysis, (this will require phone calls during New York Business hours)
  • compliance and background checking,
  • be prepared for travel approximately 3-5 days per month,
  • manage and train at least two analyst and one associate,
  • presentations for Investment Committee including deal screeners, Investment Committee memos for which templates are established,
  • negotiate credit agreements.

 

  • Develop qualitative opinions and recommendations regarding the strengths and weaknesses of the company and its suitability for investment by Mizzen. Think critically about the company and be prepared to present the pros and cos of an investment in an analytical, well researched way.

 

POST-INVESMTENT MONITORING: Each DEV will monitor the progress of their portfolio companies including keeping up-to-date on portfolio performance and address any specific requests for action or approval (for example, covenant ratios, delay in debt service payments, and waiver requests, etc.) that come from the portfolio monitoring team. On a quarterly basis they will review returns forecasts, commentary and other information provided by the portfolio monitoring team to ensure consistency with the perception of the company developed during the investment phase. The DEV will assist in positioning Mizzen for any problems or opportunities for additional funding with the Company.

MANAGEMENT: A DEV will manage at least one Analyst and one Associate. It will be the DEVs responsibility to ensure that their work is accurate, consistent with Mizzen requirements, and that they are sufficiently trained to move forward within a standard time frame for advancement.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: A DEV will have a minimum of 5 years of private credit underwriting experience with privately held, U.S. companies with revenues under $100 million. Backgrounds in investment banking, private equity, commercial lending, related M&A experience or transaction advisory will also be considered.
