As a member of our Credits, Incentives and Methods – Energy and Excise team, you will advise clients who are developing innovative clean energy projects and advise them on implementation of the provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. You will also work on excise tax technical issues and controversy matters.

As a Tax Manager in the excise tax and renewable energy credits group, you will use your expertise in taxation to provide consulting services to our diverse clients.  Background in serving energy industry clients is highly desirable. Experience and expertise in one or more areas from the list below is required, as well as the ability to quickly get up to speed in the full range of excise tax and energy credits and incentives to provide adequate technical support to RSM tax professionals and clients:

  • Federal excise tax (fuel, heavy vehicles, air transportation, manufacturers taxes, environmental taxes, etc.)

  • Investment tax credit (ITC)

  • Production tax credit (PTC)

  • Carbon capture and sequestration credit

  • Electric vehicles and refueling property credits

  • Renewable fuel credits

Responsibilities

Tax Managers in our Washington National Tax practice have the following responsibilities:

  • Consulting with clients and client engagement teams

  • Managing IRS and state examination defense for subject matter issues

  • Providing technical guidance for specialty practice teams in the field

  • Generating thought leadership through tax alerts, articles, and other content

  • Monitoring developments from Treasury, IRS and Congress for subject matter issues

  • Developing and delivering internal knowledge sharing, including firm training

  • Developing client service offerings, service ideas, tools, and best practices

  • Managing and driving the success of multiple projects across different jurisdictions

 Basic Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years’ experience with excise tax and/or renewable energy tax credits in the national office of a large firm, a national tax credits and incentives practice of a large firm, IRS National Office, law firm, or industry

  • BS/BA degree in accounting

  • CPA or JD  

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex information and tax laws

  • Strong research and technical writing skills.

  • Masters in Taxation or LLM (Taxation)

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $97,200 - $183,700

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
