Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the Director of Nursing (DON) performs administrative and supervisory functions for the RN team. The Director of Nursing will plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Service Department in all of the Center's locations; this includes directing, managing, and accounting for all staff, inventory and overall day-to-day operations related to medical care as needed. In the administrative capacity, the Director of Nursing will be responsible for the overall care direction for all locations and the Center's medical personnel. The Director of Nursing will also ensure service quality, financial results, optimum utilization of resources, efficient delivery of services, and superior client experience, and continuously improve client outcomes.


Duties and Responsibilities of the Director of Nursing: (Included but not limited to)

You'll report to the Chief Medical Officer and:

  • Ensure high team member morale and a professional, effective, and efficient working atmosphere.
  • Serves as the communication liaison between the administrative office and team members.
  • Understands the workflow and function of all positions.
  • Directs and participates in the human resource management function for the medical department by coordinating the selection, on-boarding, orientation, retention, promotion, and performance appraisal and management processes while assuring that every employee's skills and knowledge are verified and documented in their employee file according to policies and procedures before the individual provides health services to any client.
  • Leads daily operations for the nursing department.
  • Sets and tracks departmental goals and objectives.
  • Contributes to the progress and development of the organization's Compliance, Infection Control, and Quality and Performance Improvement Programs to ensure the provision of quality medical services across the organization.
  • Designs and manages continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives aligned with the organization's client-centered, integrated care model, its strategic plan, and all accrediting bodies including CARF.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure all clinics operate in accordance with State and Federal Compliance Programs.
  • Ensures staff to patient/client ratios are maintained in accordance with ASAM and regulatory bodies.

Client Care and Compliance:

  • Reviews medical notes to ensure proper documentation is maintained relating to the resident's treatment, medications, and conditions.
  • Develops and implements nursing policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that all Federal, State, contractual, and accrediting body (CARF et al) guidelines, regulations, and standards are followed.
  • Ensures clinics are operating within the established guidelines of the organization while meeting state and federal medical care regulations for the medical aspects of client care.
  • Investigates patient complaints, works with the operations team in elevating and addressing patient complaints; manages any required follow-up related to complaints.
  • Ensures that clients' plan of care is individualized and appropriate, executed as written and reassessed by the appropriate health care provider when needed.
  • Ensures overall care of clients complies with standards of excellence and meets regulatory standards. Evaluates client flow to ensure appropriate utilization. Monitors wait times for the Center and manage workflow accordingly.
  • Ensures overall ratio and care compliance with CARF and other accrediting body standards.

Routine Duties:

  • Makes rounds for observation of the care of clients.
  • Coordinates care with the Chief Medical Officer and on-call physicians as well as contracted Genoa psychiatrists.
  • Oversees the Client Assessment/Care Plan coordination.
  • Works with the scheduling coordinator to set nursing and on-call schedules in accordance with ASAM ratios and the Center's policies and procedures.
  • Provides direct patient care when necessary.
  • Provides on-call care as necessary.
  • Collaborates with doctors and executives.
  • Participates in operations meetings as scheduled.
  • Maintains a stocked inventory in coordination with operations colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications:

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  1. Ability to lead and instruct others.
  2. Assures access of employees to management for the purpose of launching complaints or sharing concerns regarding operations.
  3. Maintains communications regarding written contracts for any and all services contracted by the Center with third-party providers and assures that the contracted services have been adhered to.
  4. Uses popular software, including medical database, research, diagnosis, billing, scheduling, and telemedicine software.
  5. Communicates effectively and professionally with clients, visitors, physicians, and staff in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner.
  6. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal, and licensed regulations.
  7. Ensures compliance with both regulations and the Center's policies and procedures.
  8. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures and appropriate regulatory agencies.
  9. Responds to emergency situations appropriately with competence and composure.
  10. Working knowledge of workflow and scheduling.
  11. Must be able to maintain a highly structured environment.

Education and Experience:

  1. Registered Nurse with a Baccalaureate degree or higher in nursing or other related field required; MHA or MBA preferred
  2. Over a year's experience in nurse leadership preferably in a residential treatment setting
  3. Knowledge of medically assisted alcohol and drug treatment (MAT)
  4. Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated progressive nursing experience in leadership with experience in HR Management, accounting, inventory management, and financial responsibility, preferably in a residential treatment and outpatient setting
  5. The ideal candidate will be familiar with The Joint Commission standards, CARF and/or COA standards, healthcare operations, and medical billing and terminology
  6. Must have and maintain a current, valid NM driver's license; Must also have and maintain a clean driving record, as well as auto insurance
