Position Overview This effort will provide Engineering Support Services for the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Aviation Logistics Center (ALC), Short Range Recovery (SRR), Medium Range Recovery Range (MRR), Medium Range Surveillance (MRS), and Long Range Surveillance (LRS) Divisions at the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) in Elizabeth City, NC. Essential Job Function * The Designer will utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD) to produce 2-D drawings, models, and illustrations for SRR aircraft modification and sustainment programs. * The Designer will model aircraft structures and design parts using SolidWorks CAD software. * The Designer will perform mechanical and structural design, testing, technical data package review and development, material selection, corrosion control, technical publication development, airworthiness, certification, production, and technical documentation. * The Designer will research existing and potential SRR mechanical, hydraulic, and structural systems, designs, components and performance requirements, operating parameters, and related technical elements. * The Designer will identify emergent and projected mechanical, hydraulic and structural anomalies impacting any phase of SRR upgrade and sustainment, and ensure USCG managers are apprised of related risks, impacts and potential solutions. * The Designer will develop raw engineering data and draft maintenance procedures / technical orders. * The Designer will assist in prototyping to include reverse engineering, re-engineering, and new product development. The Designed will create first articles using additive manufacturing to test prototypes. * This position will require the participation in aircraft ground runs and/or actual flight operations. The Designer will function as a technical observer for the collection of data and be considered mission essential personnel. * The aircraft will always be staffed and operated by a USCG designated flight crew. * This position may be required to add, remove, and adjust vibration or monitoring test equipment to complete task. * The Designer may be required to travel to other USCG units to complete their duties. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications * Shall have a minimum of ten (10) years of USCG or DOD structures experience in the areas of design, modification, repair, prototyping, installation, testing, verification, validation, certification, and sustainment of aircraft structures. Relevant experience shall be identified as experience obtained within the last fifteen (15) years. * Shall have a minimum of ten (10) years practical experience in aircraft primary, secondary, and tertiary structures to include but not limited to, maintenance and repair of metal, alloy, plastics, and composites. Relevant experience shall be identified as experience obtained within fifteen (15) years of award date. * Shall have experience in the practical application of CAD software to include SolidWorks. * Shall have experience in developing ASME Y14.100-2004 and MIL-DTL-31000C (including metric) compliant technical data packages. * Must be a UNITED STATES citizen. * Experience in design and production using additive manufacturing. * Shall be proficient in identifying, locating, and researching USCG or equivalent DHS/DOD, Federal, and industry technical publications, process guides, manuals, instructions and related guidance and instructional documentation necessary for modification, testing, certification, and sustainment of MH-65E aircraft. * Shall be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and know how to use these tools for communication and suitable presentations of research results and recommendations. Desired Qualifications * Experience with the use of the IHS Drawing Requirements Manual (ISBN: 978-1-57053-002-9) is desired. * Experience in the practical application of FARO measuring equipment and Cam 2 Measure software is desired. * Experience with MH-65 structures is desired. * Experience or Training in Aviation Safety is desired. * Experience with MH-65 mechanical systems and structural elements, including flight controls, cockpit instrument panel, equipment location, and weight distribution is desired. * Experience in developing USCG maintenance procedures and technical documentation is desired. * Experience with USCG or DOD maintenance practices and procedures is desired.
