The Manager/Geographic Information System (GIS) Staff develops, maintains and evolves the strategic GIS vision for Southwest Gas (SWG) based upon business, regulatory and overall Company strategic vision.  The primary area of responsibility for this position consists of championing identified business support structure requirements within and external to the Company; ensuring all regulatory, business and compliance requirements are supported and trained through a collaborative effort with Information Services and an array of vendors supporting the Company’s multiple, inter-dependent software solutions;  and providing guidance in the tactical planning and decisions required to implement the multi-year evolving GIS vision.  Of Primary importance is maintaining and developing the interactive working relationships within SWG and among the primary software vendors.POSITION DIMENSIONSReporting directly to this position are up to five exempt support staff. The incumbent may be directly or indirectly responsible for a budget up to $3M.  The incumbent frequently exchanges information with Senior Officers, functional Directors and Managers at the Division Operations and Corporate levels, vendors, and other utility representatives.  QUALIFICATIONSThere are clear precedents and practices that the incumbent uses as guidelines to determine how the job is performed. This position requires knowledge of general GIS, five to eight years’ experience in the GIS field, and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, GIS, Geography or other applicable technical disciplines from an accredited university.
