MANAGER/GIS STAFF

The Manager/Geographic Information System (GIS) Staff develops, maintains and evolves the strategic GIS vision for Southwest Gas (SWG) based upon business, regulatory and overall Company strategic vision.  The primary area of responsibility for this position consists of championing identified business support structure requirements within and external to the Company; ensuring all regulatory, business and compliance requirements are supported and trained through a collaborative effort with Information Services and an array of vendors supporting the Company’s multiple, inter-dependent software solutions;  and providing guidance in the tactical planning and decisions required to implement the multi-year evolving GIS vision.  Of Primary importance is maintaining and developing the interactive working relationships within SWG and among the primary software vendors.POSITION DIMENSIONSReporting directly to this position are up to five exempt support staff. The incumbent may be directly or indirectly responsible for a budget up to $3M.  The incumbent frequently exchanges information with Senior Officers, functional Directors and Managers at the Division Operations and Corporate levels, vendors, and other utility representatives.  QUALIFICATIONSThere are clear precedents and practices that the incumbent uses as guidelines to determine how the job is performed. This position requires knowledge of general GIS, five to eight years’ experience in the GIS field, and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, GIS, Geography or other applicable technical disciplines from an accredited university. Equivalent combination of experience and technical training, including GIS courses, licensing and/or certification, sufficient to successfully perform the essential job responsibilities will be considered.Knowledge and experience in engineering, construction, database structures, programming, project management is preferred.  Knowledge and experience with utility and/or natural gas operations is desired.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIESManage the expectations of the various internal and external stakeholders who consume GIS services which include, but not limited to, Senior management, various Corporate staff groups, Compliance, Division Management, Division Engineering/GIS Departments, Construction and general field users of GIS Data, including contractors and the publicManage the human interface between the various multi-department GIS support structure within SWG to ensure that GIS functionality, reliability, and availability meet or exceed the end users’ expectations of GIS services and dataDevelop and maintain a presence with the principle software vendors primarily responsible for the GIS system and provide guidance and influence the development/evolution of future gas specific utility updates to core softwareProvide analytical expertise, guidance and interpretation of various GIS based standardsDirect the update and maintenance of various GIS based standards, including those for field data collection, and insure a common consistency in presentation and consistency of intentMaintain a comprehensive understanding of the inter-relationships between database structures, data models, spatial and non-spatial data and other Company Enterprise wide software systems and the interaction between GIS and those systemsDevelop and maintain an awareness of leading-edge and industry applications of GIS and field data collection technology, and apply that knowledge and awareness to the Company GIS practices and planningProactively collaborate with Information Services to ensure that the overreaching goal of creating a superior end-user experience is achieved through defined roles and responsibilities Perform related duties and responsibilities as assignedRegular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the jobSALARY DETAILSLas Vegas: $121,700 - $182,600Southwest Gas Corporation was founded in 1931 and is a subsidiary of Southwest Gas Holdings Inc. We provide natural gas service to Arizona, Nevada, and portions of California.
