Job Summary of the Special Procedures Technologist

Under the leadership of the Lead Interventional Technologist, this role provides technical assistance to all physicians working in the Interventional Suites with both diagnostic and interventional procedures. Responsible for the day-to-day clinical, technical and operational functions within the Imaging department. This includes, but is not limited to, the efficient, effective procurement, utilization and stewardship of all technical, physical and human resources. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to care provided to all age groups of patients in area, ranging from neonate to geriatric. Participates in performance improvement activities within the Interventional department and participates in CQI activities. This position requires compliance with all Joint Commission, state, federal, Corporate Radiation Right, and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols. Must possess critical thinking skills and strive to create and maintain great relationships with all facility stakeholders.

Responsibilities of the Special Procedures Technologist

  • Assist with all procedures performed in the Interventional Suite.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with all equipment within the Interventional Suite procedure room including but not limited to: Fluoroscopy, Pan Table, Med Rad injector, Monitors, Ultrasound Unit, Control panels for digital acquisition and image transfer.
  • Demonstrate understanding of supplies used for specified procedure
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Renal, Neuro, Peripheral and Vascular anatomy
  • Demonstrate sterile technique as appropriate and maintain sterile field while performing scrub position
  • Prepare patient and room for exams while managing wires and other multiple components required for procedure.
  • Perform role of circulator during procedure including: pull supplies, altering technique as phase of exam requires, man and operate injector, communicate to patient family/unit progress, and answer physician calls/pages during procedure.
  • Provide patient care throughout procedure while explaining the procedure to patient and ensure understanding.
  • Ensures patient safety throughout exam.
  • Adhere to Standard Precautions or Isolation precaution appropriate for patient.
  • Performs other assigned duties to ensure optimal department function.
Qualifications of the Special Procedures Technologist

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate Degree or graduate from an accredited Radiological Technology Program (ARRT)
  • 2-years Radiology Tech experience in an acute setting
  • 1-2 years’ experience as an Interventional Technologist

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

  • Licensed Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) with the Texas Medical Board
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Primary certification in Radiography - ARRT (R) or Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI). If ARRT (R), VI must be acquired with 12 months of hire or transfer to Specials
  • NIHSS within one month of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
