Job Title - Laboratory Technician
Location - Nashville, TN
Durations - 9 Months+ 

This position will work Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 AM  - 3:30 PM

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our Newborn Screening section. This position plays a crucial role in supporting our laboratory operations, with a strong emphasis on data entry, specimen accessioning, and various laboratory tasks. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in laboratory work, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Entry and Accessioning: Accurately enter and manage data related to specimen receipt, test results, and laboratory operations. Ensure proper accessioning of specimens to support laboratory processes and Scientists' tests.
  • Biological Media Preparation: Prepare and sterilize biological media, including petri dish plates, tubed media, and other related items as required for testing procedures.
  • Reagent and Solution Preparation: Prepare laboratory reagents and chemical solutions, such as water blanks, pH standards, acid/base solutions, and stains, ensuring they meet quality and safety standards.
  • Glassware Cleaning: Wash and sterilize glassware and other laboratory equipment to maintain cleanliness and readiness for use.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and ensure the readiness of laboratory equipment, addressing any issues that arise promptly.
  • Warehouse Receiving: Assist with the receiving and management of laboratory supplies and materials from the warehouse.
  • Specimen Handling: Receive, process, and accession specimens efficiently, following established procedures to support accurate testing.
  • Barcode Labeling: Print and apply barcode labels to specimens and laboratory materials to ensure proper identification and tracking.
  • Support Scientists: Assist Scientists by preparing materials and specimens needed for their tests, ensuring a smooth workflow in the laboratory.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of one year of professional, full-time experience in a laboratory setting is required.

  • Education: Relevant educational background in laboratory technology or a related field preferred.

  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, proficiency in data entry, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Familiarity with laboratory equipment and procedures is essential.

  • Attributes: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and safety.

Work Environment:

  • The position will be located in the Newborn Screening section of our laboratory.
  • Compliance with all safety and health regulations is mandatory.
