Solutions 71 is seeking a Windows OS Engineer III to support a Department of Defense customer. The Systems Engineer will assist the embedded NIWC Pacific USSTRATCOM Engineering Team in the design of innovative and cost-effective mission-relevant solutions including systems engineering, applications, cyber security, infrastructure, life cycle cost estimates, and operational solutions that address USSTRATCOM’s IT Enterprise and NEC operational and technology needs. Specific Duties / Tasks (include, but not limited to): • Supports the NIWC Pacific embedded engineering team in the development of integrated, cost-effective solutions that meet USSTRATCOM requirements.
• Supports the creation and the documentation of technical solutions, plus the development of the costing of each for implementation, operations, and sustainment.
• Will provide cost estimates, to include market research and Analysis of Alternatives (AoA), for various Windows-based infrastructure projects, including server clusters, storage area networks (SANs), virtualization environments, and software deployments.
• Provide accurate and detailed cost estimates for Windows and Unix/Linux-based infrastructure projects, including:
o Server clusters (e.g., Windows Server 2019, RHEL)
o Storage area networks (SANs) (e.g., storage hardware, software, and management)
o Virtualization environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
o Software deployments (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite)
• Provide technical support and guidance on Windows, Unix, and Linux systems, including troubleshooting, configuration management, and performance optimization.
• Analyze project requirements and scope to develop cost estimates that meet business needs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and clarify project details.
• Identify enhancements and incorporate new data sources into technical estimates to leverage historical labor actuals from similar projects.
• Review technical solutions submitted by other entities regarding completeness, costs, schedules and performances as well as integration with current architecture and alignment with C4IT Roadmaps.
• Participate in technical reviews, change boards, and productions readiness reviews as assigned by the Government.
• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Windows/Unix/Linux operating systems, including architecture, system services, and processes.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• At least 7 years of experience as a Windows OS Engineer (or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, including architecture, system services, and processes.
• Familiarity with Unix and Linux operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat), • Familiarity with managing user accounts, groups, and permissions using Active Directory or local Windows authentication methods.
• Familiarity developing and maintaining Group Policy Objects (GPOs) for configuring Windows settings, security policies, and software deployments.
• Provide expert-level technical support and guidance on Windows operating systems, including Windows 10, 11, Server 2019 to 2022.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop accurate and detailed cost estimates.
• Familiarity with cost estimation tools and techniques (e.g., Excel, cost estimation software)
• Proficient expertise with Microsoft Office suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
