TRC is partnering with a leading building automation and controls organization seeking a Lead Control Systems Engineer to provide end-to-end technical leadership across complex controls projects. This role spans design, programming, implementation, and onsite commissioning while also supporting customer engagement and guiding small engineering teams.
Summary
The Lead Control Systems Engineer will lead building automation projects from design through commissioning. This role is responsible for technical execution, system configuration, instrumentation design, and onsite startup activities. The position also includes customer-facing responsibilities such as design reviews, acceptance testing, and ongoing relationship management, while providing technical leadership to a small team of engineers.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership for project teams of 2–5 engineers
Lead customer meetings and technical design discussions
Develop instrument lists from P&ID drawings
Select instrumentation including transmitters, flow meters, pressure devices, and valve actuators
Select appropriate controls hardware for project requirements
Prepare submittal documentation for instrumentation and controls systems
Design control panel layouts and electrical schematics
Inspect completed control enclosures for compliance and quality
Lead customer design review meetings
Configure HMI and user interface screens
Develop and configure DDC, PLC, and/or DCS control logic
Conduct internal functional testing and quality control validation
Support customer demonstrations and acceptance testing
Install and deploy software and system configurations onsite
Perform loop checks and instrumentation validation
Execute functional testing of integrated systems
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or related discipline
3+ years of experience in controls engineering or building automation
Experience with at least one of the following platforms:
Rockwell Automation
AVEVA System Platform
Inductive Automation Ignition
Distech
Familiarity with Tridium Niagara N4 preferred
Basic knowledge of SQL and scripting languages (VBA, Python, or similar)
Experience with OPC communication (Kepware), ThinManager, and VMware preferred
Strong understanding of control system architecture and field instrumentation
Ability to work in both design and onsite commissioning environments
