Role Overview

As a Painting Department Maintenance Specialist, you will bridge the gap between high-level engineering and floor-level execution. You are responsible for ensuring the technical integrity of the painting shop, managing equipment uptime, and leading the continuous improvement of automated systems. This role requires a blend of senior-level technical PLC expertise, large-team leadership, and budgetary oversight.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Operations & Maintenance

  • System Optimization: Coordinate and monitor technical processes to ensure the shop meets production goals and maintenance indices (Downtime, PM Plan vs. Actual).

  • Root Cause Analysis: Analyze shop downtime and develop detailed action plans for equipment improvements and monitoring systems.

  • Troubleshooting: Serve as the primary technical lead for PLC-based automation and complex electrical/mechanical system failures.

  • Project Management: Lead equipment installations, including design studies, paperwork, inspections, and testing of new/modified processes.

Administrative & Financial Oversight

  • Budget Management: Analyze annual maintenance budgets and monitor purchasing, distribution, and inventory control for tools and materials.

  • Supply Chain Liaison: Act as the primary counterpart for the purchasing team; verify part specifications, create material numbers, and manage the PR/PO process.

  • Operational Planning: Prepare and execute the Annual Operation Plan, reporting status updates to senior leadership.

Leadership & Development

  • Mentorship: Act as a technical mentor for shop members, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and safety.

  • Training: Develop and execute detailed training plans to elevate the skill levels of individual team members.

  • Team Harmony: Support management in fostering teamwork and resolving organizational conflicts.


What You Will Bring

  • Experience: * 10+ years of maintenance experience in the field of automated plants.

    • 5+ years of maintenance experience specifically within the major automotive industry in the U.S.

    • Proven experience managing teams of 30+ members.

  • Education: * Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

    • Technical college degree or equivalent experience with an electrical or mechanical concentration.

  • Technical Skills: * Specialized experience with Paint Plant equipment (Ovens, Air Supply Units (ASU), Painting Robots, etc.).

    • Strong proficiency in Allen-Bradley (AB) PLC programming and control circuits.

    • Expert ability to troubleshoot PLC-based automation equipment.

    • Advanced ability to interpret complex electrical and mechanical drawings/specifications.

  • Proven Track Record: * Lead experience in equipment installations, including design study, documentation, and testing of new or modified processes.

    • Possession of relevant mechanical or electrical certifications.

  • Requirements: * Flexibility for domestic and international travel.

    • Ability to support shift rotations and urgent equipment issues as needed.
