Job Summary and Qualifications
The staff respiratory care practitioner provides a variety of technical and clinical therapies to patients of all
ages. These therapeutic and diagnostic procedures require rational judgment and clinical thinking on the
part of the practitioner, and may include all respiratory modalities, ventilator management, arterial blood
gases analysis, cardiographic (EKG)/arrthymia recognition, and pulmonary function testing and oxygen
therapy, along with the clerical duties associated with these procedures. The practitioner works to fulfill the
hospital mission, vision, and values, functions as a shift leader when assigned, and supervises less
experienced practitioners.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities to assure continuous Quality Improvement. Maintains
cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and all other customers.
Promotes a supportive, teamwork-oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities with the
long-range plan, mission, vision and values of Horizon
Position Qualifications
· Graduate of National Board Respiratory Care approved school of Respiratory Care.
· Current TN licensure as a Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner from TN Department of Health.
· Basic Life Saver (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification required within 30 days of hire date or
promotion.
· STABLE certification within 6 months of hire or promotion
· ACLS and PALS certifications are required within 1 year of hire or promotion.
What qualifications you will need:
- STABLE must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
- Associate Degree
- Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor, or State Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician, or Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT), or Licensed Certified Respiratory Therapist (LCRT), or State Registered Respiratory Therapist must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Advanced Cardiac Life Spt, or ACLS Instructor must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
- PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt, or PALS Instructor must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
- Neonate Resuscitate, or Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
