Job SummaryThe Senior Unified Communications Services Engineer will oversee the development of digital workplace communication solutions for the University, including the strategic design, implementation, and maintenance of systems and infrastructure. This will involve developing best-in-class standards and advising on existing and emerging communications technologies. The Senior Unified Communications Services Engineer will coordinate the engineering and technical support for infrastructure and services to ensure that systems are operating at peak efficiency. This role will also provide technical management, direction, and guidance to a team of engineers and partner with other Infrastructure Services teams to ensure that digital workplace communications services systems are operating at peak efficiency with minimal downtime.The Senior Unified Communications Services Engineer will positively impact UCSF’s operations and culture by ensuring UCSF’s IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the University’s mission. This role will execute UCSF’s vision while modeling UCSF’s culture and values.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. This encompasses a wide array of technologies such as telephony, voicemail, audiovisual technology, video conferencing, and collaboration platforms. The department ensures seamless connectivity and efficient communication across various departments, supporting the institution's mission of providing high-quality healthcare, education, and research. The team plays a crucial role in implementing and optimizing digital workplace solutions to meet the diverse needs of faculty, clinicians, staff, and students, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency and collaboration within UCSF.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of experience/training, in one or more of the following fields: computer science, engineering, computer information systems, etc.5 to 7+ years of experience working in one or more of the following fields: digital workplace communications, information technology, or network operations.Extensive experience supporting large-scale telephony implementations and upgrades and delivering reliable and quality service within a higher education environment.Advanced knowledge of voice and video applications and unified communications services networks, including network appliances (e.g., unified communications managers, voice switches, media gateways, routers, load balancers, and firewalls).Extensive experience with service management, asset management, and billing tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Pinnacle). Significant experience with private branch exchange (PBX), voicemail, call center management, and carrier services (e.g., Avaya Communications Manager, 2nd Nature, Avaya Aura messaging, Frontier Centrex Manager, AT&T Centrex Manager).Advanced knowledge of professional communications and network systems and the practices and techniques of the voice and data field. In-depth understanding of various network hardware platforms, network-related protocols, and software, including OSI layer 2 and 3 protocols.Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. Can relay technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders.Ability to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with a diverse community of colleagues including team members, stakeholders, and customers.Advanced organizational skills and ability to balance competing priorities and deliver concurrent projects to various stakeholder types. Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues.Advanced problem-solving skills; ability to uncover root of difficult problems and scope solutions based on knowledge of available resources and timelines as well as awareness of vision and strategy.
