Position Summary:
Oversees the day-to-day operation of MAT Services Unit. Implements and monitors compliance to patient care and professional standards established by UNMH, state law and regulatory agencies. Provides effective visionary leadership in the development of processes and protocols used to coordinate tasks and effective change. Collaborates with leadership across departments to create and maintain efficiency in Correctional Medicine. Responsibilities will also include participating in the leadership on-call rotation. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* MANAGEMENT - Responsible for organizing and directing clinical practice in collaboration with the program medical director through development, and implementation maintenance of practice guidelines per recognized standards
* ACCOUNTABILITY - Supervise and direct staff providing patient care; accountable for care provided to patients on assigned shift
* ASSIGNMENT - Designate shift and schedule assignments; assign duties in accordance with the plan of care, patient needs, and within the scope of staff qualifications and licensure/certification/registry
* MISSION - Utilizes the UNM Hospitals mission to implement system changes within the MAT services unit at MDC that maintain quality patient care and fiscal integrity; participates in program planning for new projects
* STRATEGIC INITIATIVES - Active participation in nursing strategic initiatives such as quality improvement and monitoring, NCCHC compliance, recruitment and retention of staff and patient and employee satisfaction
* DOCUMENTATION - Responsible for assurance of accurate documentation of information related to patient care activities, regulatory requirements, data collection and statistical reporting
* COMMUNICATION - Act as a liaison between staff, patients, and visitors to promote and facilitate communication, problem solving, decision making, crisis intervention, and conflict management; refers individuals to appropriate resources
* COMMUNICATION - Establishes and maintains effective formalized communication systems for information sharing, planning and problem solving with Unit Staff, Director and other departmental personnel
* COLLABORATION - Develops and maintains effective relationships with MDC team and custody providing support services; monitors services provided and collaborates in developing methods to improve utilization and efficiency
* COORDINATION - Perform functions related to serving as an ambassador representing UNMH/HSC in a professional and positive manner for promoting UH and MDC services
* REPORTS - Prepare reports, proposals, and related document for organizational needs
* COMMITTEES - Participates on various committees; Communicates pertinent information to and from committees and/or groups to unit staff, peers and other department personnel
* BUDGET - Assist in the preparation of the annual budget
* ON CALL – Participate in the leadership on-call rotation
* PATIENT CARE - As needed and when it does not create undo-interference with managerial requirements, RN Manager may be required to consult for assessment, medication dosing, care planning, and may provide direct patient care as indicated to support staff when absolutely necessary
* RELATED WORK - Perform related duties and responsibilities as required
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

* RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
