Join us.General Summary:The AI Product Owner will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of AI products and solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of AI technologies, strong project management skills, and the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions. This role will play a critical role in transforming Unum from a traditional insurance player to a leading AI first digital insurance company. This role partners closely with Unum business leaders, IT Delivery, Transformation leadership, and Unum IT architecture to lead the development of AI based digital products. This role will have matrixed responsibilities for a team of highly technical Data Scientists along with other IT specialist positions.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesDefine and communicate the product vision and strategy for AI-based solutions. Ensure alignment with the overall business goals and objectives.Develop and maintain the product roadmap, prioritizing features and functionalities based on business value, customer needs, and technical feasibility.Collaborate with stakeholders, including business leaders, customers, and technical teams, to gather requirements, understand pain points, and ensure alignment on product goals.Work with model validators to understand new features to be added to backlog. Continuously groom backlog and work with the development team to ensure clear understanding of requirements and priorities.Lead agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives. Ensure the team adheres to agile & MLOps principles and practices.Write clear and detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and use cases. Ensure features are well-defined and ready for development. Work with AI data engineers and data scientist to determine training and inference data and features for model development. Work with operators to define human-in-the-loop and workflow integration featuresConduct market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement. Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in AI technology.Build the business case for the AI Product. Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success and identify areas for improvement. Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions.Advocate for a user-centric approach to product development. Ensure the end-user experience is considered in all aspects of product design and development.Foster a collaborative and transparent environment within the team. Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to ensure clarity and alignment.Job SpecificationsBachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Business, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.Proven experience in a similar role in AI or digital product development.8+ professional experience or equivalent relevant experience2-3 years of experience in designing and building scaled AI/ML products/ capabilities e.g., Virtual agents, Predictive systems, cognitive process automation, Computer vision applicationsExperience working in agile MLOps environments.Proficiency with product management tools and data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Python).Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Passion for AI and emerging technologies.Experience working in a fast-paced, innovative environment.Ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams and willing to challenge status quo and reimagine the possibilities.Experience bridging the divide between the theoretical and the applied. Translating strategy and vision to tactical execution.Strong storytelling and communication skills to evangelize their vision at all levels.
