The successful candidate will work closely with WPH Pharmacy Leadership Team to achieve a high standard of excellence in evidence-based pharmacy practice and initiatives to meet the clinical quality and safety goals of the pharmacy department and the organization.  Services will be provided in hospital-based, ambulatory clinics including the WPH Complete Pharmacy Care Clinic and by consult throughout the UPMC Behavioral Health Network.  By joining an extraordinary pharmacy team, you will be at the forefront of helping to transform integrated behavioral health care through cutting-edge innovation in patient care, groundbreaking health services research, and advanced education and training. 

Responsibilities:

Clinical Program Leadership & Stewardship

  • Leads assigned service lines, clinical areas, and therapeutic programs.
  • Designs and implements stewardship, restriction, and surveillance activities aligned with evidence-based practice and regulatory standards.
  • Evaluates program operational, quality, and financial performance and benchmarks against best practices.
  • Identifies practice gaps and advances care through research, quality improvement, and provider education.

Medication-Use System Management

  • Develops and oversees policies for medication purchasing, use, distribution, and control.
  • Implements medication-use system improvements to enhance safety, outcomes, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensures pharmacy services are integrated within the healthcare delivery system and supports service growth.

Direct Patient Care & Clinical Practice

  • Provides decentralized, service-based clinical pharmacy care.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered medication recommendations.
  • Identifies high-risk patients and intervenes to improve quality and safety.
  • Participates in medical emergencies, discharge reconciliation, and patient counseling.
  • Conducts comprehensive monitoring to identify, prevent, and resolve drug-related problems.

Operational & Dispensing Excellence

  • Participates in pharmacy operations across central, satellite, and specialty pharmacy settings.
  • Facilitates procurement and dispensing of specialty medications, including chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, and controlled substances.
  • Maintains proficiency in hospital information and medication ordering systems.
  • Oversees pharmacy operations and technician practice as appropriate.

Communication, Education & Practice Advancement

  • Communicates effectively with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of pharmaceutical care.
  • Actively participates in stewardship and restricted medication programs.
  • Serves as preceptor and mentor; develops training and experiential education for students, residents, and staff.
  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy

  • B.S. degree in Pharmacy Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree; PharmD preferred.

  • Required: Current licensure as a Pharmacist in practicing state

  • Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency OR 3 years clinical pharmacy experience

  • Knowledge and expertise in advanced pharmacy practice and service, comprehensive medication management, and evidence-based medicine in specialized area appropriate for clinical assignments

  • BPS Board Certification preferred.

  • Experience in health system pharmacy preferred

  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to innovate and lead change

  • Commitment to continuous professional development and program management

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • PA Pharmacy Tech Registration
  • Pharmacist
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
