HVAC BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN 2

OVERVIEW

The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines under general supervision and supporting the Rocket Center mission, vision, and values.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

Position Duties

Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and cooling units.
Diagnose and repair these systems' electronic, mechanical, and electrical components.
Diagnose and repair boiler and kitchen appliances.
Diagnose and repair chillers, air compressors, pneumatics and gas appliances.
Assist other department staff with general repairs and maintenance.
Travel to job sites in service areas and work with dispatch to ensure the schedule is maintained and delays are properly communicated to customers.
Be available to work nights or weekends, on a rotating basis, to service the emergency needs of our customers.
Document all installed equipment upon arrival: make model, serial number, type of fuel, necessary test measurements, and pictures as required.
Diagnose diverse service issues, obtain replacement parts, calibrate the system according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, and fully explain to the customer the problem and what needs to be corrected.
Participate in company-provided training opportunities on the latest industry technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

Education: Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.
May be required to complete an apprenticeship and formal training in areas of specialty.

Required Experience

Experience: Requires 3 + years of experience in the field or a related area. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Computer Experience: Must possess knowledge of Windows-based operating systems, including some basic associated software applications (word processing and spreadsheets).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

EPA Certification is required for job responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

This position has the following special requirements:

Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and buildings and to travel.
Sitting for long periods.
Standing for long periods.
Carrying and lifting supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to waist height.
Bending, kneeling, and reaching to visit all Rocket Center areas and perform maintenance.
Sight, reading, wrist movement, and feeling to operate computer terminal, use tools, and perform maintenance.
Talking and Hearing to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and donors in person and over the telephone.
This position deals extensively with vendors on behalf of the Rocket Center.
This position deals with employees who interact with assigned areas of responsibility.

Eligibility Qualifications

Must be authorized to work in the United States.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Factors

This position involves working in a climate-controlled office environment.
This position involves working out of doors, at heights, on roofs, and throughout the campus in all weather.

Expected Hours of Work

Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
On-call, on a rotating basis.
