Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a Career and Educational Navigator position at the Clarkston campus.

General Description:
This position will provide educational navigation services on the Clarkston Campus to current and prospective students and families, WWCC staff and outside entities. This position will assist with navigating students through advising and registration processes. This position will assist in the delivery of services to enhance the retention and completion results of students on the Clarkston Campus, to include communicating potential financial resources that may be available. These services will enhance the students' educational, personal and social growth for completion of identified program goals. This position will also have responsibilities in marketing and outreach efforts to help promote the college, create college /program awareness, and establish working relationships with the regional community.

Essential Functions:

Direct Student Support

  • Provide timely and accurate educational information for students on degrees, certificates, courses, college policies, and procedures as well as other campus resources.
  • Assess students' academic and career development and help identify appropriate degree pathway(s) that match their educational and career goals.
  • Assist students in developing a plan to meet realistic and attainable academic and career goals.
  • Assist students in the development of effective problem-solving skills, self-advocacy, decision making, and personal responsibility.
  • Monitor academic progress of students; provide academic early alert intervention strategies.
  • Serve as an advocate for students.
  • Track student progress and implement retention and completion strategies.
  • Provide follow-up services for students referred by faculty members to identify and implement retention and completion strategies.
  • Provide drop-in educational planning, career exploration, and referral services for students coming to Clarkston's Student Success Center department.
  • Triage students in crisis and make appropriate referrals.


Marketing and Outreach

  • Provide marketing strategy to include plan implementation.
  • Organize assistance with outreach efforts.
  • Build strong working relationships with community partners as they pertain to marketing and outreach.
  • Disseminate information on programs and services to students, college staff, and the community. Participate as needed in recruitment efforts.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation.


Coordination and Communication

  • Participate in advisory, college, community, and agency meetings as needed as well as department and college activities and committees as appropriate.
  • Assist with additional retention services in coordination with other departments on campus.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Office of Admissions and Registration, the Business Office, and other college personnel.
  • Attend meetings and work as part of the Student Success Center team.
  • Act as community partner agency and industry liaison.
  • Participate in providing coverage as needed in various departments on campus such as the Testing Center, Business Office, etc.

Required Qualifications:
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.

  • Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral science or closely related field, OR Associate's Degree AND two years of experience working with at-risk populations. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for required education at the college's discretion.


Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching/educational planning and/or counseling experience.
  • Experience working with community partner agencies.
  • Experience or working knowledge of Federal financial aid.
  • Experience with marketing efforts and strategy.
  • Experience with social media
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish.

Conditions/Terms of Employment

This position is in a bargaining unit for which AFT is the exclusive representative.

This is a full-time overtime eligible professional position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Official college transcripts required at time of hire. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. The college is a tobacco free institution.

Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in an office environment. Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in office environments. This contract position work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday 8-hours each day. During the summer, work schedule is Monday through Thursday 10-hours each day. Periodic travel to the Walla Walla Campus is required.

  • The typical work area includes office setting on campus, classrooms, partner institutions, and co-location sites for outreach and marketing activities.
  • Position requires movement between various buildings on campus creating exposure to weather.
  • Some in-state travel is required and may include occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to sit, walk or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, multi-line phone, handle individual papers, write and take notes, prepare informational and marketing materials.
  • Ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
  • Vision sufficient to read documents, computer screens, perform close up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.


Compensation:
Annual salary range for initial placement based on the represented exempt salary schedule: $56,650-$64,094. The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
