Hawaii struggles with unemployment

While every sector has been hit by the pandemic, travel and tourism has perhaps been hit the hardest. This leaves tourist-dependent states such as Hawaii in a fix. The robust tourism industry is a source of livelihood for locals and residents, and dipping into savings is no longer feasible. Since March, the state's unemployment rate shot up from 3 per cent to 34 per cent and is currently one of the highest rates in our nation.
