St. Louis officers shot
St. Louis city's first responders haven't been having a pleasant first month of the year. Apart from the rising number of omicron cases, they were recently caught in gunfire in the Ferguson neighborhood.
Two St. Louis officers were shot and hospitalized and a man was shot and killed after a police chase quickly snowballed into gunfire. At around 1:15 PM, St. Louis County Police got a call saying that a white Toyota 4Runner connected to a recent homicide was spotted in the city. The police pursued the 4Runner into Ferguson where it lost control and crashed. Three people got out of the vehicle and opened fire on the officials. One officer was shot in the leg and the other was struck in the abdomen undergoing surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
This incident is the latest addition to the exceeding number of injuries and deaths of public servants in the area. Less than two weeks ago a St. Louis firefighter was killed in the line of duty. Prior to that, two other St. Louis police officers were struck by a vehicle while responding to a crash, one of them is still hospitalized. St. Louis police chief John Hayden said that the officers are working hard to keep the public safe but the number of such critical incidents against them keeps increasing. He urges the public to pray for the injured officials.
