Why the labor market may take time to pick up

Until the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, the US labor market was the best it's ever been in 50 years. However, the pandemic has hit the labor market badly, and experts predict that bouncing back will take an uncertain amount of time. 17 million people have filed for initial unemployment benefits in mid-March as numerous businesses had to close their shutters. Leisure, travel and hospitality have been hit the worst, and manufacturing has been disrupted as well.
