Vice Mayor of California takes up three jobs to tackle labor shortage
The Vice Mayor of Folsom, Sarah Aquino has taken up three different jobs to deal with the labor shortage that is rampant throughout the country.
She recently started her new job as a hostess and dining room supervisor at the Back Bistro. Apart from her duties as the Vice Mayor, she has also taken up a job selling health and life insurance. Aquino said that she saw a Facebook post about how the restaurant was in desperate need of hosts and decided to apply. Although she has no restaurant training, Aquino has committed to decoding 20 hours a week for 6 months at the restaurant. This is her way of leading by example. She aims to encourage people to work at such places which will help out the businesses and in turn the city. Aquino also recently started a campaign that asks retirees, stay-at-home, and students to go to work in order to ease the labor crunch.
Multiple restaurants across the country are forced to shut down due to a lack of staff. They are finding it extremely difficult to hire and train new staff. Most of the workers have quit their jobs looking for better employment opportunities with higher wages. A sushi chain in the state was forced to close all its nine outlets last week due to a labor shortage. The crunch has reached retailers as well leading up to Christmas. Recently, many have reported a lack of Santa impersonators, although people believe this might be because older men fear contracting Covid if they go out to work. Sarah Aquino's purpose is to inspire more people to take action when they see a "Help Wanted" sign.
