Apple employee files NLBR charge
Janneke Parrish is the latest addition to the long list of Apple employees who have recently been fired by the tech giant. The company maintained that Parrish was fired for deleting apps and files from a company phone at a time when the company was under investigation. Parrish who worked as a product manager on Apple Maps in Austin however, believes that she was fired for her activism.
Parrish spearheaded the efforts to start the #AppleToo campaign that aimed to improve the working conditions of employees. #AppleToo had widespread consequences for the Tech giant who are usually tight-lipped and quite adept at keeping their struggles internal. #AppleToo created a platform for employees to post their stories of struggle as an employee online which immediately gained a lot of traction, to the point where CEO Tim Cook conducted a virtual town hall meeting to address the concerns.
A month after her firing, Janneke Parrish has filed a lawsuit with the National Labor Relations Board against the company for wrongful termination. According to reports Parrish is at least the third corporate employee to file a charge against the iPhone maker as a violation of the National Labor Relations Act. If NLBR finds merit in her complaint they will take charge. This stats is a wake-up call for the company to look into their employment practices. Over the past few days, many Silicon Valley giants have come under scrutiny by NLBR as employees lash out.
