LA municipal workers are required to get vaccinated by October 5th, however over 3000 employees of the Los Angeles Police Department are to seek medical and religious exemptions from the same. These numbers are just going to increase, which means that more than half of the workforce will apply for an exemption. The deadline for seeking exemptions was pushed last week to allow the workers to show plans of seeking exemptions, more than 6200 workers did so.

However, LA officials believe that there are chances that the data might be inflated. They believe that many employees have submitted multiple forms stating to pursue both religious and medical exemptions which would increase the numbers, they also argued that workers may decide to take the vaccine even after applying for exemption. Mayor Eric Garcetti said that the religious and medical exemptions are to protect the health and constitutional rights of some employees however they will not be misused by all. The vaccination will become a mandate for city employment on October 20th.
