More workers pressurized to get vaccinated, or face termination

As more companies implement the vaccine mandate, employees who refuse to get vaccinated are now losing jobs. Employers in the healthcare and aviation industry terminated hundreds of workers who refused the vaccine. Novant Health, a North Carolina hospital terminated 175 unvaccinated workers who refused to comply with the company's vaccination requirements. Compliance for the company requires either complete vaccination or a medical/religious exemption for not being vaccinated. Earlier last week Novant had also suspended 375 employees without pay because the company determined that they violated its policies and gave them 5 days to comply or else be terminated. Over the following, an additional 200 employees also lost their jobs.

Carl Amato, the CEO of Novant Health said that they are not worried about the staffing shortage. "Staffing is no more a concern today than before this event. Without a vaccine mandate for team members, we faced the strong possibility of having a third of our staff contracting or exposing themselves to the virus", he said. Although the healthcare sector accounts for the most number of unvaccinated employees' terminations, other sectors are also expected to do the same. United Airlines is one of the major airlines to terminate a large number of employees.
