Spector Alloys is investing $10 million on their Rosemount Recycling Plant to make it safer and energy-efficient. This plant is the largest producer of industrial aluminum in the Upper Midwest.
Spector Alloys' President Luke Palen said that their investment reflects the company's "commitment to continuous innovation for the environment and our community". The company has previously settled an air pollution issue with the US Environmental Protection Agency and installed pollution control equipment worth $250,000 on its furnaces. Apart from this, the company is also looking to make a major equipment upgrade. Spector installed a $3 million "baghouse". Baghouses are attached to furnaces to collect emission, the one installed by Spector goes a long way in maintaining workers safety and emission of pollutants.
These updates are good news for plant workers, for example, giant fans that were used for cooling are replaced by furnaces. Palen said that initially, the cast aluminum had to be put on pallets by hand, these were red hot and risky, now they have robotic palletizing which is much safer. Spector has also commenced the building of a 70,000 square foot warehouse in addition to their 90,000 square foot facility, the new energy-efficient warehouse will make transportation more efficient. Palen has confirmed that they will be hiring new employees and increasing employment. The is willing to hire people with no experience and train them to drive a forklift and other jobs. Floor workers at Spector Alloys have claimed to be making $50,000 to $70,000 along with an enviable health insurance package.
