Amazon employees reject union in NYC warehouse

Amazon workers in the NYC warehouse have voted against forming a union. This has been a blow to the organizers who last month pulled off the first successful US organizing effort in Amazon's history. The votes were still being tabulated but the ballots cast against the union were enough to fend off a second win for the nascent Amazon Labor Union (ALU). The group has both former and current workers at the company leading the effort.

Ballots that were challenged either by Amazon or ALU were not enough to sway the outcome. The Amazon Labor Union wrote on Twitter that "the fight has just begun." Last month, a separate election was held when workers at a different Staten Island warehouse voted in favor of unionizing. That was a first for Amazon in the US.

Meanwhile, in the lead-up to the election, Amazon continued to hold meetings mandatorily where workers where it persuaded workers to reject the union effort. The company also posted anti-union flyers and launched a website urging workers to 'Vote NO'.
