Meatpacking industry faces worker shortage
The COVID-19 pandemic is revealing many things to us, and one of them is the shortage of immigrant workers in the US meatpacking industry. The work is tough and difficult, and a health hazard in the wake of a viral pandemic. It has affected thousands of meatpacking workers across the US. It's estimated that around 175,000 immigrant workers are employed in the US meatpacking industry, and it is also one of the most dangerous jobs. Several meatpacking centers have shut shop due to the virus, raising concerns for labor shortage to meet the demand for meat products.
