Chapman Partnership, a Miami-based shelter is doing more than just providing meals and a warm place to stay.

The story starts with the experiences of 27-year-old Chris Benham, who went to the shelter assuming it was like any other shelter but he was pleasantly surprised. With the help of the members Benham now works for a Miami Food Distributor. The CEO of Chapman Partnership, Symeria Hudson said that providing warm meals, shelter and clothes is not enough "we do believe that once we settle on our basic needs, we need to give more." Every person who comes through the shelter is assigned a case manager to monitor their progress through classes for highly-skilled jobs. According to Hudson, 20% of the homeless aren't jobless but they can not make ends meet, the other 40% are families with children who attend classes including banking courses.

The program does not require any additional assistance or investment from the community. Their 800 beds and programs are funded largely by a county food and beverage tax. Hudson who is a Harvard Business School graduate puts her degree to use by fundraising. The course is personal for her as her uncle Billy Ray Bland died homeless. It was too late for him but it's not for people like Benham.
