Employers add 'No Vaccine Required' to job listings to attract workers

While employers search for workers in a tight labor market, companies have offered numerous promises to applicants such as higher wages, sign-on bonuses, ample vacation time, and childcare. The latest promise added to this list is a no vaccine requirement. This three-word phrase is popping up across job listings online, often in all caps or followed by exclamation marks to emphasize it. The move comes as businesses seek to turn the federal government's proposed vaccine decree on its head and attract employees, mostly from a talent pool that has been turned away from employers that required a covid 19 vaccine.

Under federal regulations, which have met some legal challenges which could stop or delay its implementation, all private businesses with 100 or more employees, certain healthcare workers and federal contractors are required to be vaccinated or in some cases, undergo regular testing for the virus. The reasons behind the 'No Vaccine Required' signs vary by business. For some, it is philosophical and for some, it's desperation amid an unbalanced labor market. Several employers say the move has been working. Primal Life Organics, a company that added the 'No Vaccine Required' sign to their job postings saw an increase in applications from the single-digits to 30 or 40. Trina Felber, CEO of Primal Life Organics said, "It was at that point that we were then able to start hiring people. I don't want people to be hired being told what they can and can't do personally. I believe that the right to choose and the freedom of choice is a basic need that every human has."
