Starbucks workers in Buffalo area seek to form a union
Starbucks workers in the Buffalo area seek to form a union called the Starbucks Workers United. The employees from three stores have filed petitions to hold union representation elections. Brian Murray, a Starbucks barista in the Buffalo area said that the only way to resolve issues in the future is to form a union and bring democracy to the workplace.
After the workers' announcement, Starbucks announced that it respects the workers' decision but the company has a pro-partner environment and it is not necessary for them to unionize. Workers aim to hold elections store-by-store with 20-30 workers each. Some of the issues raised by the workers include stress due to understaffing and lack of training.
