Starbucks implements Covid vaccine mandate
Starting from February 9th, 2022, all US Starbucks workers have to get mandatory vaccination or have to be tested weekly. This is in line with the federal mandate imposed as the Omicron variant sweeps through the country.
Starbucks employs a domestic workforce of roughly 220,000. Starbucks COO John Culver informed the employees that they need to disclose their vaccine status by January 10th. This information was first disclosed in a newsletter on 27th December 2021 and was reiterated in the Monday weekly mandate. Culver said that the company believes that the vaccine is their best defense against the Covid variant, especially since the number of daily cases has peeked since the delta variant. Employees who decide to opt out of getting the vaccine will have to buy their own OSHA-approved tests and submit weekly results. Starbucks also updated its policy on how long employees must quarantine after contracting the virus, the new specifics adhere to the directives by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
