Amazon expands flexibility to work from home

Amazon told its employees on Monday that it was loosening its plans for a return-to-office plan, retreating from a rigid approach that it took earlier this year. In March, the company had announced that it was hoping to move towards an office-centric approach and would want workers to return to work in offices. Now, Amazon is adding more flexibility to these plans. Andy Jassy, Amazon's chief executive told employees in a message, " Instead of specifying that people work a baseline of three days a week in the office, we’re going to leave this decision up to individual teams." The director of each team would decide how many hours they would be present in the office and otherwise. "We’re going to be in a stage of experimenting, learning and adjusting for a while as we emerge from this pandemic", Jassy added.

In addition to this, employees who work from home would not be able to live anywhere. Mr. Jassy said that the company requires most of their employees to live closer to the core team so they can travel easily to the office for meetings. Many large tech companies have delayed their return-to-office plans to the next year, embracing a hybrid work plan. Flexibility has become a perk for in-demand tech workers. Amazon's new changes come amidst the company's hiring spree. Amazon is looking to fill 40,000 corporate roles in the US alone.
