Claims for unemployment benefits hit a new low, sign of a strengthening job market

Claims for unemployment benefits hit a new low, sign of a strengthening job market
The number of Americans applying for first-time unemployment benefits fell to a record low- a sign that the job market continues to improve despite the surge of covid-19. Last Thursday, the Labour Department reported that 348,000 people applied for these benefits which is a drop of 29,000 claims from last week's numbers.

The department confirmed that this is the lowest number since March 14, 2020. Additionally, another 109,000 claims were filed for the Pandemic Unemployment assistance made available for self-employed and gig workers.
