Staten Island: Hospital employees protest vaccination requirements

Staten Island, New York is one of the emerging hotspots for the new Delta variant of Covid-19. Considering this and people flooding the hospitals, on August 16 Staten Island University Hospital said that they require all their staff members to be vaccinated and undergo weekly testing. This was done to ensure the safety of the employees and patients.

Owing to this decision, a group of around 100 people from the hospital staff started protesting the mandate. One of the lead protesters who works as a technician at the hospital told the source that this decision needs to be a matter of choice, the employees need more time to conduct research and decide to take the vaccine. The Pfizer vaccine available in the US has received Food and Drug Administration approval.

This protest is due to people's fear of being forced to do something especially take a drug and also how some people are wary about the vaccine. The hospital administration said that this decision has already gotten 80% of their staff vaccinated.
