New York teacher arrested for administering Covid vaccine

A New York school science teacher was arrested for administering the covid vaccine to one of her 17-year-old students.

According to police reports, Laura Russo administered the dose at her home without having any prior medical training. She did not have any sort of authorization to give jabs nor did she have the students' parent's consent. Ms. Russo (54) is a biology teacher, she alleged that the student wanted the vaccine. Russo was arrested on New Year's eve and could face up to four years in prison if convicted. She administered the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine which is the one authorized for minors in the US, authorities are not certain about how Ms.Russo procured the dose of the vaccine.

Injections if administered incorrectly can be extremely dangerous. They are given out by trained medical staff because the staff needs to check the condition of the vaccine and consider the medical history of the patient such as allergies. They also need to be on standby for any emergence care post the injection. A video circulated of the aforementioned event shows Ms.Russo saying "you'll be fine, I hope" and "here you go, at home vaccine" to the teenager. The Nassau police were alerted by the student's parents after he came home and told them what happened. The superintendent of Herricks High School where Ms.Russo worked said that she "is a district employee who has been removed from the classroom and resigned pending the outcome of the investigation." Russo is currently being charged with unauthorized practice of a profession, her hearing is set for 21st January.
