Mental wellness benefits at work

A record-breaking 4.5 million people have quit their jobs during the past year, this drove home the point that if employers do not pay attention to their employees' mental health, they can most likely expect them to walk out the door.

Burnout is one of the primary determinants of the "Great Reshuffle", a recent survey suggests that almost 89% of those who recently left their job or are planning to leave their jobs soon attributes their decision to being burnt out and mentally exhausted. Due to the pandemic, more than 30% of Americans have reported symptoms of anxiety disorder or depressive disorder according to a survey conducted by the National Centre for Health Statistics' Household Pulse Survey. Before the pandemic, this number was 10.8%

Many employers are noticing this pattern and stepping up to address the issue. About 87% of US employers have said that enhancing medical health benefits will be one of their top priorities over the next two years. Focusing on the employees' mental health is a win-win situation for both. Not only does it allow employees to do their work properly and most effectively, but it also acts as an incentive from the employer pushing more and more employees to come back to work thus helping the worker shortage. Jeff Levin-Scherz who is a population health leader at WTW said: "Mental Health is in forefront of employers' minds because the understanding of how much need we have is much better than it was a short while ago."
