Walmart's corporate staff will return to office in November
Walmart announced on Friday that its corporate employees will return to offices in the week of November 8th. Donna Morris, the company's chief people officer said in a statement, " We had a way of working before the pandemic and we developed an effective way of working during the pandemic. Now, I'm excited about our new, more flexible way of working." With around 1.6 million employees in the US, Walmart is the nation's largest private retailer and the majority of its employees work in warehouses and brick-and-mortar stores. Many of those in-store employees will also have to follow President Biden's mandate to get vaccinated or get tested weekly.
A Walmart spokesperson also added that as part of the ongoing efforts, the company has made vaccination a condition of employment for all campus office associates and field leaders unless there is an approved medical or religious exemption. Walmart's global tech team of about 10,000 is excluded from the return-to-office plans. The company announced in May that the tech team would continue working remotely even post-pandemic. In late July, the company announced that all campus office associates and regional should be vaccinated by October 4th, unless they have an approved exemption. In addition to this, Walmart also announced that the "vast majority" has been vaccinated.
