Texas Abortion laws preventing it from becoming tech haven
On September 1st, Texas became one of the first states in the United States to ban abortion. On September 3rd, Vivek Bhaskaran the CEO of QuestionPro gathered all his female employees to let them know that regardless of insurance the company would cover the costs for any out-of-state abortions. Bhaskaran is one among the few who believe that even though they are not politicians or lawmakers, they can still do their part.
Texas was expected to become the tech haven of the United States, having marketed itself in such a way that the state has managed to attract multiple tech giants. This includes Oracle, Hewlett-Packard, and many more. Ellon Musk the CEO of Tesla has also moved to the state. Facebook, Apple, and Amazon have all grown in Texas by opening warehouses and data facilities. However, considering the state's recent abortion laws, voting rights, and failure to mandate vaccines, employers like Bhaskaran are concerned about retaining and recruiting the top tech talent. Texas has 33.843 job openings which are the second-highest in the state. Even then, attracting workers is a task.
