Facebook sent out an internal memo to all its employees asking them to maintain documents for all forms of communications that occurred since 2016. This was sent in light of the recent and extremely public investigations conducted on Facebook regarding their involvement in various world events.
The investigation started when a whistleblower leaked what is now known as The Facebook Papers which showed that the company and its researchers knew how they caused polarization and spread misinformation in various countries. It eventually spiraled into what caused an insurrection at the capital on January 6th. The memo suggested confirmed that the company was put on a "legal hold" which means that all their documents since 2016 will be reviewed by legislative and government bodies. They also mentioned that they are on high alert. The decision was met with comparatively less chatter from the employees belonging to the workplace, that is the rank and file employees. This shows that the usually vocal employee base is getting sober as management cracks down on internal dissent and leaks.
