Fewer workers apply for jobless aid, first drop in 3 weeks

For the first time in a month, the number of people applying for jobless aids has fallen, indicating that the US job economy is back on track with its steady recovery. The Labor Department said on Thursday that 326,000 people applied for first-time unemployment claims last week. That is 38,000 fewer applications from the previous and it is the first drop seen after three weeks of a steady increase in numbers. In early September, the numbers saw a fall to 312,00 and then saw a rise in three straight weeks suggesting that the Delta virus and the hurricane over the Gulf Coast had hampered the recovery in Jobs temporarily.

Robert Frick, a corporate economist at the Navy Federal Credit Union said that as the Delta virus drops rapidly and the effects of the hurricane are almost over, the path towards the normal level of weekly layoffs should resume.
