D.C Assistant Principal charged for handling two jobs

Michael Redmond has worked for D.C Public Schools since 2014 and has earned several accolades while doing so including starting a book club for black male students and helping his students grieve the shooting of a fellow classmate.

Since the pandemic began and the staffing shortage got overwhelming, Redmond occupied two positions- one as the principal of E-Cubed Academy in Providence, R.I. which he attended in person while serving remotely as the assistant principal of Kremer. D.C's Board of Ethics and Government Accountability has said that this constituted double-dipping and Redmond has violated the D.C code of conduct. This code prohibits city employees from holding outside jobs. Violaters of the code can receive jail time as well as pay a fine of up to $5000 or three times the amount received.

Both the schools opted for different modes of teaching, while E-Cubed had in-person classes. Kremer had remote classes, which enabled Redmond to fulfill both duties adequately. The students of Kremer which is located in Southeast Washington were among those who leaders feared would suffer the most from online learning. Redmond confirms that although he did have two jobs, he immediately resigned from the D.C Public Schools when he was notified that he wasn't allowed to do so. Redmond was due to submit a response to the charges against him by 25th November after which the Board of Ethics will hold a hearing where Redmond can testify and make his case.
