Stores see a shortage of products as consumers stockpile again

American consumers are stockpiling again leading to a shortage of basic household goods in many stores amind the latest covid 19 surge. In the face of the situation, Costco has an alert on its website that some warehouses may have limits set on some products. Costco also sent an email out to customers stating "due to increased volumes, you may see a slight delay in the processing of this order." Customers have also taken to social media to post about the shortages in retail stores. Recent posts have mentions of low supplies of certain products like water, paper towels, canned peaches and toilet paper.

Proctor & Gamble which produces products like Charmin toilet paper and Bounty paper towels has also increased production by running factories around the clock for seven days a week and is boosting shipping volumes to keep up with demands. P&G's vice chairman Jon Moeller said that this has been the most challenging supply environment he has worked in during his 30 years in the industry. The current scenario is still not as desperate as the panic-buying in the early stages of the pandemic but it has created supply-chain difficulties in the US and overseas with labor shortages and shipping delays.
